Kal-El was born on the doomed world Krypton, because he's had awesome luck from BIRTH. A few minutes before the entire world exploded his parents, Jor-El and Lara-El loaded him in a space ship and shot him off to Earth, where he was adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent and raised with good old fashioned American values. He grew up, got superpowers, moved to Metropolis, used those superpowers to further the ideals of Truth, Justice, and the American Way. After a while of that, he was asked to become the world's solution for nuclear missiles, and agreed. Shortly after aliens attacked because that's just what aliens do, there is a line formed all the way round the solar system with species waiting their turn, and Superman teamed up with 6 other heroes to beat down the threat. These seven decided they worked well as a team, and banded together to form the Justice Lords.

A few years later, President Lex Luthor had the Flash - one of the Lords - killed.

And, well, that was the end of that.

Superman beat down the door of the oval office and, after Lex ranted a bit, had an epiphany that all his being a hero and obeying the will of the people was doing jack to actually protect their interests. So he fried Luthor, and the Justice Lords took over the world. Freedoms were confiscated, because people lacked the maturity to choose what was best - after all, children should be treated as such. And the world is perfectly safe. In the end, it is a better world.
